Strawberry Time

Strawberry in VirginiaThere are certain foods that almost require an announcement when they arrive fully ripe and “in season”.    Heralding trumpets. Strawberries are near the top of that list.  Sure we can get berries year-round from lots of sources but nothing compares to a fresh locally grown strawberry (preferably still warm from the field).

Well, here’s your announcement.  Although our cooler temperatures through winter and spring have delayed the peak season, it’s now officially the peak Strawberry Time for juicy flavorful sweet delicacies.  The delayed beginning of the crop will only make them sweeter, so find a local market and treat yourself.  Virginia has 263 strawberry farms according to USDA count…. plenty of fresh berries for everyone.
