Civil War Sites on the Journey Through Hallowed Ground

by staff on May 28, 2012

Civil War Generals Lee and GrantVirginia is rich in history.  History buffs will be pleased that efforts have been coordinated to link the many significant sites along the route through West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland into an area called the Journey Through Hallowed Ground.  These historic sites range from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Virginia, north to Gettysburg PA.   The drive itself goes through beautiful countrysides and towns.

Along the route you can see  9 President’s homes, 13 National Parks, 47 National Historic Sites, and hundreds of Civil War battlefields.  Guided tours are available … you can even go canoeing or skydiving!

As a tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in this historic setting, sponsors intend to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War by planting 620,000 trees along the route – - one tree for each fallen soldier.  You can make a donation to sponsor one of the soldier’s trees yourself .
