Fiber-Optics for Central VA

by staff on September 17, 2010

Here is great news for high-tech infrastructure in central Virginia.    How Things Have Changed! Fiber Optics Coming to Central VACheck this link for a story of an Atlanta company named FiberLight who is ready to provide its fiber optic network along a 46-mile stretch connecting Charlottesville to Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

This investment by FiberLight is likely made viable because the service will also benefit some large government agencies (NGIC, DIA) as well as individuals. They say that the system will not only provide cloud computing for large amounts of data storage…. it will also be laid underground for stability of service. They even have equipment capable of handling the underlying rock that they’re likely to encounter in the Virginia soils.

One likely by-product of this installation is that many of the rural areas between Charlottesville and D.C. will likely see the sort of service that will allow buyers to consider purchasing properties in locations which were previously unsuitable for their businesses.
