The National Ground Intelligence Center facility has been a part of Charlottesville life for several years now. According to NGIC, their division “produces scientific and technical intelligence and military capabilities analysis on foreign ground forces required by warfighting commanders, the force modernization and research and development communities, Defense Department and national policymakers.” Its missions include being the primary agency within the Defense Department responsible for the acquisition requirements management and exploitation of foreign ground systems materiel and helicopters.
That has brought a diverse and interesting cross section of technical specialists to the Charlottesville area in the past few years. NGIC and its accompanying DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) counterpart have had an impact on the real estate in Charlottesville and especially in the area surrounding Rivanna Station by drawing builders and housing options to the north end of Charlottesville in order to meet the housing needs of the employees and their families.
We have reason to expect another influx soon. In a related building on the same grounds, the Joint Use Intelligence Analysis Facility has officially announced its new opening, located next to NGIC.
Here’s the report about Joint Use Intelligence Analysis Facility. We can’t tell you very much else about their specific jobs, because it’s all top secret and they don’t share that with us, even when we are working with their families to relocate them to town. But there is no denying the economic and demographic impact that they have on the Charlottesville area.
